I want to show you some simple and effective ways to really cut down your postal mail in general.  This is not entirely targeted at just junk mail.  By reducing any sort of postal mail, you are helping to cut down on paper usage.

One of the best ways to reduce mail is to sign up for paperless billing.  Almost all utilities providers, credit card companies, and banks now give you this option.  By signing up for paperless billing, you can now check and pay your bills online.  You can also check on past statements without having to rummage through all the paper stack stuck in some brown box sitting in your garage or closet.  In addition, you can keep on top of all the most recent transactions that you have charged.  Well, that may be a plus to some and a minus for others.  And to top it all off, you get the benefit of receiving less mail (and who really wants to get bills in the mail right?) and saving money on envelopes and postage.

For those of you who frequently travel or live abroad, paperless billing and online statements is a great and probably the only way for you to still keep on top of your payments and finances without missing a beat.

Once you go digital with all your statements and bills, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.  You might even get so addicted that you may start wanting everything else to go paperless.  Whoa, slow down, tiger.  There are some things that probably still deserve traditional mail delivery.  Birthday cards, holiday cards, and more personal messages are good ways to tell those close to you that you actually care enough to lick that stamp and put that card in the mailbox.

So go ahead.  Take advantage of the Internet age.  Go paperless, reduce mail, and save some trees.
